Otherwise, it's the same deal, and perhaps inevitably it's the best way to enjoy the game on console. But the 4K consoles are certainly not the most interesting aspect of the LA Noire story. The way the conversion of this very specific game type has been handled tells us much about the challenges facing developers in bringing richly detailed open world games to Switch.
It's great to see third parties pushing the envelope on the hardware, but the evidence suggests that while the GPU is significantly more capable than last-gen systems, Nintendo's hybrid doesn't quite have the CPU horsepower to match - and of course, LA Noire's in-game world lacks much of the fidelity found in the RAGE engine. GTA features many more NPC types with much richer behaviour, more advanced world simulation and physics on another level.
But by and large, this LA Noire port does work, and by extension the door remains open to the GTA titles somehow making their way across to the Nintendo system. However, just how well it would run, and the extent to which it could draw upon assets and technology from the later current-gen remasters remains to be seen. Digital Foundry specialises in technical analysis of gaming hardware and software, using state-of-the-art capture systems and bespoke software to show you how well games and hardware run, visualising precisely what they're capable of.

LA Noire translates to Nintendo Switch with everything intact. While docked, the resolution dynamically shifts between x and x at stress points - while as a portable, it goes between x and x For comparison, PS4 runs at a straight p, and PS3 renders at p.
Texture quality divides all formats. Switch falls short of PS4's crisp texture maps - and instead predominantly relies on PS3-grade assets. It's still great, even if the visuals around it don't live up to today's expectations.
The reply options have been changed though. Otherwise, this is still very much the same game players got their hands on in There's a bit of repetition with the case work, the driving is still realistic in line with how s' cars were, even though it's not very interesting after the first few times, and you can switch to a black and white colour mode if you really want the full film noir experience.
Given the various aforementioned troubles, it's tough to recommend buying L. Noire on the Switch, especially if you own a Sony or Microsoft console. Of course, if you're looking for an immersive detective noir fix on the go, Nintendo is your only bet.
And despite its technical issues, it's amazing that you can get a console game such as this for your enjoyment wherever you are. Noire on Switch is more than just a lazy port with some improved visuals. Bigger improvements come in the form of the implementation of both touchscreen and motion controls.
You can now touch the Switch screen to move Phelps and drag your finger to adjust the camera. The motion controls are slightly less intuitive but still work very well. Movement is still mapped to thumbsticks but you can also use the Joy-Cons to handle aiming and camera movement.
It also lets you reload by tapping the IR camera on the right Joy-Con, switch targets by flicking your wrist when locked-on and rotate clues by moving them in your hands. Rockstar has done a great job in making the game feel more interactive.
The only real sticking point with the Switch version, aside from its huge storage requirements, is its price.
